“As long as you’re working towards your dreams, you’re not a failure & f*ck other people’s opinion on where you should be.” – OG Nya Lee
Monday, February 12th Nya Lee gave New York a sneak peek into her latest project EP “Trap Luv”. The listening party went down at the 40/40 club which to my amazement actually started on time. As soon as Nya stepped into the room you instantly felt her presence. Not to mention that she looked absolutely amazing styled by That’s So Khalil. A lot of these industry parties tend to be a snooze fest but this was everything but that. The vibe was turnt from beginning to end. Now I know a lot of people when they think of Nya Lee they instantly go back to Season 4 of Love & Hip Hop NY and the whole Erica Mena x Rich Dollaz beef, but in all reality, she is really nothing like the crazy women they tried to portray her out to be. Don’t get it twisted tho she definitely is a Young OG (Original Gangsta) and a force to be reckoned with but I got to see another side of her at this event that many haven’t had the chance to encounter.
Nya kept it a 100% professional working every single part of the room. She was very humble and thanked everyone personally for coming out. Even when it seemed like the room would start to get a little quiet she would keep the crowd going with her positive contagious energy. Like a real entertainer, she grabbed the mic and made sure she left her mark where you couldn’t forget her even if you tried. Honestly, I was overall impressed, Nya came a long way from where she used to be musically. In my opinion, she is definitely underrated in the game. Her bars were ten times harder than a lot of these hip-hop songs I been hearing on the Top 100 these days. My favorite song of the night was “Day Ones”. I can always appreciate when an artist comes up and never forgets where they came from or the people that worked night and day to help them to get there. Speaking of day ones NY artist Jaquae, who is a long time friend was in the building showing love and support along with Love & Hip Hop reality tv star/artist Mariah Lynn. Nya showed her appreciation for Jaquae by surprising him with the reveal of their latest collab together called “Move It” being added to the tracklist.
Another favorite track of the night for me was “Looky” heavy hitting hard catchphrases showing off nothing but her raw uncut lyrical talents at it’s best with no hook just straight bars after bars. Nya covered all bases with this EP giving us tons of versatility showing all levels to her. There were some vibe out r&b love tracks, hardcore gangsta, and a little bit of emotional gangsta where she poured out of some her life story. I related the most to “Trust Nobody” I love the message she gives. Everyone has a past and not everyone lived the best life or made the best choices but being able to grow from that shows incredible levels of strength. Nya Lee would be a great role model for many of these young misguided girls. She’s been there, done that, lived it and conquered it all, but still manages to have a drive for success that is utterly relentless never taking no for an answer. The EP “Trap Luv” is said to be hopefully released next month March 2018 but in the meantime, you can text your email address to 862.252.5043 for an exclusive link preview. I’m going to need all of my readers to support her because she deserves to be on top. She is the type of female rap icon that I would much rather see these young girls idolizing. It takes a team to get her there and the fans mean everything. So if you haven’t checked her out yet check out her last EP The Snapback with hits like “No Smoke” & “Have Mercy” feat Jim Jones. You will be a #NyaNinja before you know it.
