Queen Jo Jo, tell our Valid Readers about yourself…
I am a doer and dreamer, very passionate about life, music and people. I love making people laugh and I try to see the good in everyone.
So you’re an on air radio personality in Jamaica, let’s talk about that…
Yes, I am, I’m also a Radio Producer, I work on the best Community and Online Radio Station which is Roots 96.1FM. I currently produce and host (3) Programs. “Extraordinary Abilities,” this program is dear to my heart, it creates awareness and compassion for the disabled community, highlighting the achievements and also the needs for those who are disabled. The second program is “City Beat”, this program shares all the Community Development Programs and events happening in the inner cities across Jamaica, and last but not Least “Fresh Off The Block” my entertainment program, which airs Fridays at 8Pm ( lol Shameless Plug)
How did you get your start in radio?
I saw an ad on Facebook, while sitting bored out my mind at work. Roots Fm was looking for persons to train to work on the radio. I said hmm this looks like me! I Applied and the rest is history.
What difficulties do you face being a radio personality?
None yet, my only turn off is men trying to date me because them a look a buss. Lol
The rewarding part of being a radio personality is?
For an hour I have the ability to change someone’s mood and vibes. I get to educate them about things they never even knew existed. I get a chance to make people feel good and laugh, that is a win for me.
I read in your bio that love fueled a portion of your media career, it is said that most artist produce their best musical works after a serious or hurtful breakup. Did a situation like a serious breakup make you want to excel even more in the media business?
Well, not my media career, It motivated me to start my own business “Queen Jo Jo Promotion” Honestly the relationship and break up was a great lesson for me. I never knew I had the ability to promote anything or anyone until I met my ex. He went from no one knowing him, to people identifying his song, to producers in other parts of the world wanting to work with him. What really pushed me is when I was told that “ No one else will ever work with you” lol well that was a big lie. We’re cool still and I forgave him, because of that experience I’m stronger and wiser.
Now Valid Readers, Queen JoJo is a Curvy Diva aka A Plus Size Model. Queen JoJo tell them why you became a plus size model?
I had to find away to become comfortable in my skin. Since I was a teenager I’ve been in a big war with my body. Until one day I saw a beautiful woman bigger than I was in a swimwear, on the cover of a magazine, and I said that’s what I’m going to do.
Being a Plus Size Model, do you get body shamed a lot? I know it’s not easy to put all your wonderful curves out there for the world to see.
People make stupid comments in person, an online yes! In person they greet me with, bwoy Jody you a get fat man! Like I wasn’t fat last week when they saw me, or you would look even better if you lost some weight, but this is the body I have now and I’m loving all of it!
Do you recommend plus size modeling to our curvy divas out there, who need a little help in boosting their confidence?
Yes! Yes! Even if you’re not trying to become a professional model, do a couple photoshoots, dress up, flaunt your stuff and post it to upset the unhappy buggers, lol, frame those photos and admire your beauty. Even though this might sound cliché, true beauty really comes from within, make sure your heart and mind is pure, that’s where true beauty lies.
What are some of your future plans pertaining to the media industry?
Well, I’ll be studying for my degree next year, I just want to learn as much as I can, as I go along this journey.
Use your name as an acronym
