Jarreau Vandal “Anthology”

After months of anticipation, and with support coming from all sides of the musical spectrum,

Jarreau Vandal unveiled his debut thirteen-track mixtape, Anthology. Download and stream it now:

‘Anthology’ – Jarreau Vandal

A melting pot of genres, touching on everything from R&B and dub, to grime and latino grooves, Anthology is an eclectic body of work that marks a significant change of gear for Jarreau. With a distinct focus on live instrumentation, the Dutch beatsmith, multi-instrumentalist and, as of the forthcoming project, vocalist, is channeling his inspirations and travels into a new sound. An anthology of musical creativity.

Conceptually, the artist views the release as an opportunity to “look at life from distance” and uses it as a “motivational force to keep working”. Yet it does not stop there. True to the title, the mixtape seeks to pinpoint the most crucial moments in the life of the veteran member of Soulection as well as serves as a platform to showcase the versatility of his talent.

‘What You Saying’, premiered by The Fader earlier this week, does just this and completes the collection of singles released in the build up. Steel drums, a funky slap bass, and the seductive vocals of TĀLĀ make up the bare bones of the track, with Jarreau’s deft production piecing it all together into a definitive hit. It joins the likes of ‘Scintilla’ (with Luna Mae), ‘Break My Back’ featuring Ashnikko, and ‘Westside’, all of which received support from industry tastemakers at BBC Radio 1, Beats 1, and Rinse FM to name but a few.

Out today along with the rest of the mixtape, are laid back numbers including ‘Moonlight’ featuring Hollie Carmen and Jay-Wray, ‘Down’ with R&B newcomer JGrrey, and ‘Take Your Time’ with Ace Hashimoto. On ‘At Least You Know’, Jarreau enlists the help of MOBO-award winning singer Shakka, while electro-soul trailblazer Sam Wills undertakes vocal duties on ‘Breathe’.

Glued together by skits that could be singles in their own right, Anthology truly is a multi-faceted piece of work that serves as a refinement of Jarreau’s existing discography, while offering a glimpse into his creative evolution and vision for the future.
