So here we are, 3 months into 2018. It seems like just yesterday we were screaming happy New Year and setting our sights on our goals for the year. Once the “new year” feeling wears off and life resumes flying at us full force, we may lose sight or steer away from our path to accomplishing the goals we set.
Most times to grow and move forward, we need to look back and reflect. Looking back is not the same as going back and the two should not be confused. In this case looking back is beneficial because you may not realize how far you have come until you see where you started. Looking back might give you a chance to see exactly where you went wrong if you’ve faltered from your goal and it may also show you what you’ve been doing right and keep you focused on the prize. I started out this year with intentions on doing big things and crushing goals but life happened and I’m not exactly where I want to be so I sat down with myself and asked (and answered) a few questions that have helped me see things clearly and get back focused. I hope that you benefit from them as well.
Do you like your job?
Obviously, we all have mornings that we would just like to stay in bed and not have to go to work, but overall do you like your job? Or are you miserable having to go there? Let’s face it; most of us spend more hours at work each day than we do at home. More than likely, if you answered yes to the latter of those questions, something has to change. Stop draining yourself! Your your happiness is more important than anything. Anything!
Do my peers motivate me?
You know the saying, ‘you are only going to be as good as the people you surround yourself with’. I couldn’t agree more. Identify the people who bring out the best parts of you and motivate you to take work harder and be the best version of you. In some cases, these people might now set out to intentionally do that, but energy transfers! These are the type of energy transfers you want. These are the kind of people that will positively influence your life!
What has been your biggest stress in the last year?
Stress is something that is very hard to avoid but avoid it! Stress kills and we’re trying to live our best life! This year I vowed not to stress as much and I was doing pretty well until I wasn’t. Not sure where I went wrong but I did and I found myself stressed to the max. This is where the reflection I mentioned comes into play. I had to look back and reflect on everything and identify what was stressing me out and guess what I did, I got rid of it! Life is too short!
Are you putting enough effort into your relationships?
You are in a relationship with everyone in your life. Your significant other, your friends, your parents, everyone! Are you putting forth the effort to maintain those ties? I know firsthand how easy it is to come home from work exhausted, turn off the phone, and go to sleep. Before you know it, days or weeks have gone by and by you haven’t talked to some of the most important people in your life because you have inadvertently isolated yourself. It is easy to let being busy get in the way of spending time with the people you love but you have to put effort into your relationships with the people you care about. A good support system is enormously vital!
How much time do I spend each day pursuing my goals?
People make time for the things they want to make time for. If your goals are important to you, you’ll make time for them right? Take a moment to see how much time in a day you spend doing things that won’t add any value to your life. Watching reality TV or scrolling through your social media accounts can easily account for wasted hours. Analyze what you’re doing with your time and make sure that you’re making time for the things you want to accomplish.
Life is beautiful and we should all be living the life we desire. Ask yourself these questions or similar questions, refocus and start crushing those goals like you intended. Cheers to a prosperous and abundant life.
