February 17th, 2018, Fashion With Friday held it’s 2nd annual fashion show at the 3 Black Cats Cafe in Brooklyn, New York. After partnering with the owners of 3 Black Cats Cafe owners, Tasha Hill started Fashion With Friday which is an independent fashion program for creative youth. Artwork from the participating youth jeweled the space, creating an intimate showcase of their work. One project, “the Paper Bag Trench” stood tall, commanding attention near the entrance. The Trench was made by the students using 800 brown paper bags. On the train of the trench were motivational quotes about being proud and slaying goals.
As the runway show started you could feel the excitement from the audience. Many of the seats were filled with family and loved ones of the participants and they didn’t let the snowy weather stop them from supporting. The night was hosted by professional runway coach Jeanie Hill. She is also the sister of Tasha Hill the founder of Fashion With Friday. Jeanie helps to polish the models for the runway by coaching them on how to walk and pose. Each young model had an elegant and unique walk despite their age.
Designer Tricia Campbell of Glamour Glamour swimwear let us know she wants women of all sizes to feel as hot on the inside as her native land, Jamaica. Tricia specializes in plus size swimsuits and adds exotic bright colors to reflect the beautiful beaches and scenery from her hometown. in Jamaica. She wants to use her swim line to raise the esteem of women allowing them to be proud and confident while wearing Glamour Glamour. Her passionate and bubbly personality was showcased through her work. Each piece commanded attention while adding comfort to the models. It was clear at the end of the show that when you want to make a statement at the beach, Glamour Glamour swimwear is the way to go.
Closing the runway show was fashion designer Keenya Kersey with her Georgiastitch collection. The music transitioned from chill trap music to the nostalgic sound of Luther Vandross as the models came down the runway wearing sophisticated women’s wear. The collection’s use of velvet displayed many savvy techniques and choice of colors. Some pieces had fringes and were fittingly accessorized with fur pieces which provided the extra details to make the show a success.
The overall accomplishments of the coordinators and the participants were grande as the show came to an end. Positive energy filled the space as mingling people congratulated each other on how wonderful each had done. Fashion With Friday plans to continue to uplift the community with its program and looks forward to another show next year.
