Brain-wash: make (someone) adopt radically different beliefs by using systematic and often forcible pressure
Nowadays the newest trend is to be what they call “WOKE”, but how WOKE are we really? What may be breaking news this week is so easily forgotten once the next distraction surfaces. Do you ever wonder how they keep us so easily distracted? Well, I believe we already know we just choose to dismiss our natural instincts because it’s easier to let someone else do the thinking. For example, let’s start with the music. The newest music craze is Ms.Cardi B rising to the top of Billboard charts and becoming America’s latest version of “The American Dream”. Now when she first hit the charts I can admit “Bodak Yellow” was catchy and stuck in my head for awhile. Then she quickly started to get boring for me, but that was an opinion I apparently wasn’t allowed to express. People on social media were so offended by my opinion of her that it caused one hell of a debate. It suddenly clicked into my brain how is it that this mediocre rapping ex-stripper could hit so big so fast with no real talent at all.
Then I realized her whole personality is everything as a woman that we were taught not to be. So why is it acceptable now? It’s now ok because they want our younger generation to grow into becoming the stereotype they have been trying to make us out to be all along. Her image along with a few other new age rappers makes it okay to be what they call “Ratchet”. I actually had someone tell me “oh she’s from the hood so you know what do you expect of her.” That offended me quite a bit cause it was almost like saying girls from the hood are uneducated and ghetto and that’s ok because not much else is expected of them. Now I personally don’t think that Cardi is purposely putting out this image (the woman is far from stupid). I just hoped that as her fame grew she would use her story more to encourage our younger generation to work harder to chase their dreams.
Instead, she’s out here telling our young girls,”If you don’t go to school & you don’t have a job, Get A Sugar Daddy”. It makes me wonder, who is really in charge of these artist images is it them or is it the music industry? Are they selling their souls to “Secure The Bag”?
Then we have “Social Media”, oh how social media has ruined lives, relationships, and families. Social media keeps the old and the new generation distracted on a 24/7 basis. Who you are as a person is now rated by how many followers and likes you have. People are now posting their entire lives for the world to see and a lot are even faking their lives for likes. Do it for the Gram they say. Relationships are also ending all due to one refusing to post a pic of their significant other because if you don’t post your relationship to be validated then it isn’t real. As well as the fact that it has opened so many doors for the ability to cheat. Nothing is private anymore. Anyone can find you anywhere at anytime.
Social media is the biggest tracking device. We have willingly given strangers an inside view into our everyday lives. If someone wanted to stalk you or take advantage of you they can easily jump on your page and have access to your job, favorite foods, places you frequently visit, etc etc. I can admit tho that it does have its perks when it comes to keeping in touch with friends and family. It’s also great when you need to spread the news to as many as possible at one time or promote your brand/business. Just remember to mindful of the things you choose to post because even if it’s deleted nothing never really vanishes from the internet.
Moving on to Fashion, keeping up with the latest trends and getting our society to spend tons of money just to wear a name and be accepted. What many forget to be aware of is what are these fashion moguls doing with the money you give them. Also, what do these moguls stand for? Many camp outside of sneaker stores for the latest pair of Jordans, but did you know that Michael Jordan gives money to fund prisons. You’re giving him 200 dollars of your money just to be considered the man. All the while he’s using your money to help the man keep minorities imprisoned.
Now what about Timberland boots, bet you didn’t know that the owner told the New York Times his boots were made for honest working people. He didn’t approve of the fact that his boots were big in the hip-hop scene. Maya Angelou herself also tried to drop some knowledge on this in her poem “Clothes” stating, ” And for footwear, you wear Timberlands, Even under the sun, That same tree that’s the symbol for them, Could have been the same one your ancestors were hung from. Yet you still run out to purchase them.” Let’s not forget about Calvin Klein either who has openly admitted that his clothes are not made for African Americans. That still doesn’t stop many of you from buying his underwear just show off because you’re not hot if you don’t own a pair of Calvin’s.
Last but not least reality tv. How everybody loves their Love & HipHop. They call it reality tv but what they show couldn’t be further from reality. Not only is it brainwashing us over time it is also exposing the actors on the show to humiliation for our amusement. It has been condemned by the Mental Health Foundation for exploiting the vulnerable. Broadcasters are capable of setting standards of what should be appropriate behavior yet they purposely feed you the opposite. The new generation of reality stars has our younger generation emulating this disgusting behavior.
Not only is it giving the wrong views on real-life situations it makes people become obsessed with fame. There are many reasons why people are tuned into these shows, One its cheap to produce, Two because it draws a larger viewing audience, which brings us to three, if so many of us are tuning at the same time over long periods time they can slowly brainwash us and manipulate our behavior without us even noticing.
So, after all, that said I leave you with this…
